Research and Application of Online Replaceable Anode Well for Cathodic Protection of Oil Well Casing

For cathodic protection of oil well casings, the existing anode well is an open-hole completion well, and after a period of operation, the well wall is prone to collapse, resulting in the anode body and exhaust pipeline being buried. After the anode well fails, it is difficult to repair it, and the anode body of the anode well cannot be directly replaced after consumption. Therefore, it is necessary to rebuild the anode well. A study on online replaceable anode wells for cathodic protection of oil well casings was conducted. In August 2021, field applications were conducted in two cluster well groups in the Pingqiao operation area of the First Oil Production Plant of Changqing Oilfield. Both sets of anode body mechanisms in the anode shaft were vertically placed in the anode shaft, with one main and one standby operating. When the electronic release capabilities of both the main and standby anode bodies cannot meet the system operation requirements, The anode core in the main and standby anode bodies can be removed and replaced, enabling the system to work normally, achieving the goal of reusing the anode ground bed, avoiding the need for repeated drilling. Moreover, the replacement is simple and the construction period is short, not only saving the cost of re drilling the anode well, but also beneficial to the environmental protection of the well site, with significant economic benefits, achieving and meeting the needs of oilfield development.
