Production of Recombinant Proteins Using Plant Cell Suspension Cultures and Bioreactor Engineering: A Short Review
摘要
Plant molecular farming is emerging as a promising platform for the production of proteins of pharmaceutical and cosmeceutical importance. Plant cell suspension culture combines the advantages of whole plant-based and microbial systems, making it a suitable candidate for the production of recombinant proteins. They can be propagated under aseptic conditions, are easy to scale-up, and are cost-effective. The low yield of recombinant proteins in plant cells remains a major issue in the further development of this technique. Thus, scaling up the production of plant cells in large bioreactors would allow us to meet the increasing demand and at the same time reduce the required skilled manpower. Here, we highlight the recent developments and possible approaches for developing plant cell culturesCell culture as a platform for the production of recombinant proteins.
