Micro-school Community: The Development and Transformation of Fanjia Primary School in Sichuan

When you walk into the classroom at Fanjia Primary School, you will see a warm and welcoming scene—on one side of the room, you will find desks, chairs, a blackboard, and a podium. Different from other schools, the podium is not high nor situated far away from the students’ desks. On the other side of the classroom are bookcases and sofas, where children sit in groups. Some are sat reading books and whispering, while others use tablets to explore the outside world through online courses. If you had not traveled dozens of miles to get here, it would have been difficult for you to imagine that this is a rural school.
