Multiomics Data Integration in Understanding of Inflammation and Inflammatory Diseases

Inflammation is a complex biological response to a variety of harmful stimuli, including infection and tissue damage. The diverse array of cell types and chemical mediators involved in inflammatory reactions make it difficult to diagnose and monitor inflammatory diseases such as inflammatory bowel disease and asthma using traditional methods such as blood tests, saliva samples, and radiography. Hypothesis-driven biomarker development, relying on single protein, metabolite, or cell studies, is a time-consuming process. To better understand the underlying biological processes of inflammation, systems approaches have emerged. The availability of large-scale omics datasets, including genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics, and metagenomics, provides an opportunity to comprehensively analyze the complicated biology of inflammation and related diseases. Therefore, it is necessary to adopt a systematic and comprehensive approach to investigate the molecular mechanisms underlying inflammatory responses and develop new strategies for diagnosis and treatment of inflammatory diseases.
