Advanced Drug Delivery Strategies for Metal-Based Anticancer Drugs

Metal-based anticancer drugs, such as platinum complexes (e.g., cisplatin, carboplatin, and oxaliplatin), have demonstrated remarkable efficacy in combating various forms of cancer. However, their clinical utility is often limited by issues related to toxicity, poor solubility, and insufficient targeting of tumor cells. In recent years, significant efforts have been directed toward the development of advanced drug delivery strategies to address these challenges and enhance the therapeutic potential of metal-based anticancer drugs. We describe various drug delivery systems such as graphene oxide, chitosan, and PEGs that will facilitate metal-based anticancer agents to the specific targets more efficiently. The integration of advanced drug delivery strategies for metal-based anticancer drugs represents a critical advancement in cancer therapy. These strategies hold the potential to enhance the effectiveness of metal-based drugs while minimizing adverse effects, ultimately offering new hope for cancer patients and contributing to the evolution of precision medicine in oncology.
