Space Weather Study Through Analysis of Solar Radio Bursts Detected by a Single Station CALLISTO Spectrometer at the Space Technology Complex (STC), Banting, Malaysia

The investigation of Solar Radio Bursts (SRBs) found by the CALLISTO (Compound Astronomical Low-cost Low-frequency Instrument for Spectroscopy and Transportable Observatory) station at the Space Technology Complex (STC), Banting, managed by the Malaysian Space Agency, is described in this paper. From 1 October 2021 to 31 December 2022, the SRBs were detected which encompassed the relocation of the pre-existing LPDA antenna and the substitution of the indoor LNA with an outdoor LNA (LNA2000). The e-CALLISTO website reported that the CALLISTO station at STC, Banting, Selangor, observed a total of 123 SRBs. There are 11 type II SRBs, 104 type III SRBs, 2 type IV SRBs, and 6 type V SRBs among them. It has been discovered that impulsive solar flares are linked to 15% of type III SRBs and 17% of type V SRBs. Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs) are related for 63% of type II SRBs, 30% of type III SRBs, and 17% of type V SRBs. Furthermore, 37% of type II SRBs, 19% of type III SRBs, 33% of type V SRBs, and all type IV SRBs that have been analyzed are linked to solar flares and CMEs. Based on the analysis conducted, the detection and analysis SRBs from ground observation can provide substantial information that can be utilized to identify and forecast space weather occurrences that may cause space weather hazards to our Earth and technology.
