Octagonal Enclosed Octagonal-Shaped Metamaterial Absorber Based on SiO2 for the Infrared Region

This article highlights the development of a simple and cost-effective metamaterial absorber (MMA) to solve manufacturing limitations and unleash the tremendous potential of the visible and infrared spectrum in many applications. The MMA design employs low-cost gold metal and silicon dioxide as dielectric spacers, allowing operation from 661 to 1082 nm. This absorber achieved 95.29% average absorption throughout the whole wavelength, including two resonant points where maximum absorption attained about 99.98% and 99.4% for 724.93 nm and 1002 nm, respectively. The design is distinguished by its simplicity and permits straightforward fabrication, distinguishing it from earlier studies. Furthermore, the absorber’s small size (200 nm × 200 nm × 220 nm) helps to its adaptability. Comprehensive performance testing in various modes illustrates the absorber’s resistance to TE, TM, and TEM modes. Because of their unique qualities and capabilities, the suggested metamaterial absorbers have extensive use in the defense, energy harvesting, imaging, sensing, and communication industries.
