Backstepping-Based Control of a PV Inverter in Islanded Mode

The objective of this paper is to evaluate the performance of a photovoltaic (PV) system feeding a passive three-phase load via a three-phase DC-AC inverter and an LC filter in order to reduce ripples and increase the quality of the output AC signals. Since the inverter operates in the islanded mode, the control objective is to enforce the output voltage to tracks its time-varying desired value. To this end, a backstepping technique is used. An experimental prototype is built to validate controller performances. It is shown, using theoretical analysis, simulation, and experimental results, that the designed controller achieves all desired performances, namely: asymptotic stability of the closed-loop system and good tracking of the output voltage to its reference. It should be noted that the performances obtained are achieved regardless of the variations in the PV input voltage.
