Introduction to Functional Safety and Cyber Resilience

Human beings’ own safety is the first and foremost thing no matter how technological revolution and industrial changes affect people’s production and life. As more and more electrical/electronic/programmable electronic (E/E/PE) systems are used in such fields as industrial control, power system, fuel supply, aerospace, automotive industry, robots, medical equipment, information weaponry, and combat systems for safety purposes, controlling the overall risk of these safety-related systems within the required range through appropriate technical and management measures to protect personal safety and the environment has become a global core concern and action goal—functional safety. Today, all industries are empowered or transformed by digital, network, and AI technologies, and functional safety is welcoming re-interpretation, re-adjustment, re-optimization, re-upgrading, and re-balancing.
