Cyberspace Endogenous Security and Safety Defense Vision

Since cyber-physical systems are a bridge connecting the physical world, the digital world, and human activities, they are widely used in important industries and fields such as public communication and information services, energy, transportation, water conservancy, finance, public services, e-government, and national defense science and technologies. They are related to all aspects of the modern society, and with the increasing abundance of digital products, smart services in cyberspace are becoming more and more advanced, the number of software and hardware codes is increasing, the complexity is growing exponentially, and the application scale of cyber-physical systems is expanding with each passing day. In this context, the problems of CESS emerge one after another, just like the “Sword of Damocles” hanging over the digital society. Unlike general information systems, once a cyber-physical system is attacked, it will directly or indirectly cause unpredictable and incalculable physical damage. In particular, the cyber-attacks related to vulnerabilities and backdoors have become a threat to the functional safety of all cyber-physical systems or infrastructure containing digital elements. Common CESS problems, like “lingering ghosts,” have permeated almost every corner of cyberspace, deeply endangering the safety of people’s lives and property and bringing unprecedented challenges to human beings in maintaining or ensuring the healthy and sustainable development of the digital society [1].
