Preliminary Study of Exhaust Gas Characterization in Water-in-Diesel Emulsion (WDE) Fuel Combustion

Indonesia as one of the largest producers of biofuel raw materials has implemented the use of B-30 fuel in commercial dieselDiesel vehicles. However, the development of environmentally friendly technologies to minimize greenhouse gas emissions is still a hot issue today. Water in dieselDiesel emulsion (WDE) is one of the fuel solutions to the problem of high exhaust emissions produced by dieselDiesel engines. The development of methods without emulsifiers (surfactants) has become a challenge for researchers to develop low-emission and cost-effective fuels. In this study, 15% WDE fuel with a mixing speed of 3000 rpm and a mixing time of 3 min was able to produce the lowest soot emission of 4.7% compared to biofuel B-30 which was 6.6% at 1000 rpm engine speed. In addition, the use of WDE fuel is also proven to be able to reduce the production of exhaust emissions produced.
