Effects of Storage Temperature on Biomechanical Properties of Articular Cartilage

Storage protocols are essential in experimental studies of articular cartilageCartilage. There were various storage temperatures used, and conflicting results on cartilageCartilage properties were observed. This study aimed to examine the effect of storage temperature on the biomechanical properties of articular cartilageCartilage. Bovine hip joints were stored at 4 and − 20 °C. The cartilageCartilage specimen was extracted to perform indentation test and characterise the permeability and elastic modulus. Significant difference in the biomechanical properties of the frozen cartilageCartilage was found compared to fresh cartilageCartilage.
