The Impact of Bentonite on Pyrolysis of Low-Density Polethylene Waste

The widespread use of plastics has led to an increase in waste production, which poses an urgent challenge. Low-Density Polyethylene (LDPE) stands as a prominent contributor to this predicament, as its persistence in the environment presents grave concerns. In this context, the pyrolysisPyrolysis method emerges as an exceptionally effective means to address LDPE waste management. The aims of this study are to determine the impactImpact of bentoniteBentonite during pyrolysisPyrolysis of LDPE waste. The controlled pyrolysisPyrolysis reactor was operated at approximately 330 °C for 45 min using 500 g of LDPE trash bags in the presence of bentoniteBentonite (mass ratio 0, 10, 20% respectively). This research revealed that the addition of bentoniteBentonite accelerated the formation of the first drop of liquid product by a factor of 2.2, while increasing the volume of the liquid product by 15% and reducing its density by approximately 4%. The liquid product formed contains light aliphatic compounds, such as dodecane and undecane. Consequently, we conclude that incorporating bentoniteBentonite holds tremendous promise for both the pyrolysisPyrolysis process and the resulting product obtained from LDPE waste pyrolysisPyrolysis. Thus, bentoniteBentonite can be used as a catalyst to obtain valuable hydrocarbon products from the pyrolysisPyrolysis of LDPE waste.
