Performance Evaluation Approach for the Parametric Upgrade of Automotive Brake Caliper in Remanufacturing

Design for upgrade (DfU) is one of the sustainable design strategies which enhances the values of the remanufactured component by enhancing the performance or function of the component. The parametric upgrade represents the performance upgrade that will be a focus of this study through the detailed consideration and evaluation of related parametric values of the components at the early stage of the design process. A remanufacturable automotive brakeBrake caliper is selected as the exemplary study where the establishment of the upgrade alternatives is depending on the measurement and evaluation of the brakeBrake torque values in each life cycle. A current approach to measure the brakeBrake torque came with imprecision issues whereby the ANN prediction-based approach is then suggested for a future study to provide a more accurate estimation result.
