摘要

This chapter explores the intriguing utilization of avian models in biomedical research, particularly in genetics, developmental biology, neuroscience, immunology, and infectious diseases. Avian species such as chickens, quails, zebra finches, and crows offer several advantages as top-tier research models, including their small size, short generation times, ease of manipulation, and genetic diversity. This chapter covers the application of avian models in studying various human diseases such as cancer, neurological disorders, and viral infections, as well as feeding and nutrition, health monitoring and disease prevention, handling and restraining techniques, anatomy and physiology, breeding and reproduction, and common techniques and procedure used in avian models. This chapter highlights the potential of avian models as invaluable tools in biomedical research and their unmatched contributions to elucidating and treating human diseases.
