Epilogue: Lessons Learned and Future Directions
摘要
The digitalization of Indonesian Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) is driven by a symbiotic relationship involving MSMEs, platform businesses, and a government that acknowledges the significance of digital transformation for the nation's technological and economic advancement. While the national business ecosystem plays a crucial role in fostering e-commerce development, Indonesian platform companies rely extensively on global sources of technology and capital. The chapters of this study have discussed various aspects of the digitalization of MSMEs, demonstrating that its success depends on the entrepreneurial and digital capabilities of these enterprises, coupled with the essential factors of financial support and access to a reliable digital network. Importantly, the latter challenges extend beyond the capacity of MSMEs to resolve on their own; hence, they require external interventions, particularly from the government. Another crucial point that deserves emphasis is that the presence of an e-commerce platform contributes to the enhancement of the retail sector. However, if it does not concurrently uplift the manufacturing sector, the e-commerce platform may only amplify the sales of predominantly imported goods.
