Thermal Modelling and Analysis of Thermal Profile of Photovoltaic Module Using FEM Analysis

In this research paper, a 3D temperature static model of poly silicon PV module is developed in Altair HyperMesh software and analysed the thermal characteristics in ANSYS Fluent software under varying climatic conditions. While analysing the thermal images, the edges have a lower temperature and the aerial fluctuation in module temperature (Tmod) is minimal. It also shows that Tmod increases with increase in solar insolation (UPOA) while an opposite scenario exists for wind speed (WS). The variation of ambient temperature (Ta) shows that the differential between Tmod and Ta decreases with increase in temperature. Additionally, the simulation of the effect of sky conditions and ground temperature shows that a clear sky and a lower ground temperature assist to keep Tmod at a lower temperature. Based on the results, we have developed an analytical model that correlates Tmod with UPOA, Ta, and WS, with taking into consideration sky condition and ground temperature and observed significantly good match with experimental and published results.
