Getting qualified skilled workers is indispensable for the growth of any industry. As far as GCC countries are concerned, the lack of technically qualified workers locally continues to contribute to the reliance on expatriate workers for many private sector industries in the region. The main objective of this study is to assess the perception of expatriate skilled employees of Indian origin about their motivation to expatriate to the Sultanate of Oman and to continue their expatriate assignment successfully. The data collected from 161 Indian nationals residing in Oman along with their families through a self-administered questionnaire were analyzed through correlation and regression analyses. Apart from the above, a review of the existing laws and policies prevailing in the Sultanate has also been carried out to understand how these laws and policies could be influential in creating safe and protected working conditions. The study revealed that Oman’s more worker-friendly laws and directives are poised to ensure high levels of safety, dignity, and overall well-being of the employees. On the other hand, the empirical part of this study revealed the availability of educational facilities as the foremost important reason for not only choosing Oman as the expatriate destination but also contributing to the continuation of their successful expatriation. The outcome of this study will help the researchers and policymakers to look beyond the traditional motivations for migration of skilled expatriates.
