Proposal of Landfill Site for Bangalore City Using GIS Integrated with Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) Method
摘要
Waste management has become a significant issue in most of the metropolitan cities of India including Bangalore. In addition, illegal dumpsites are of serious concern for this city. Novelty of the present work lies in the recommendation of environmentally safe landfill site locations for Bangalore’s Northeast, Northwest, Southeast, and Southwest regions. For this investigation, the current work has attempted to incorporate few socioeconomic and environmental criteria. Center of the city was selected and marked as a shapefile in ArcMap software. A 35 km radius buffer circle was demarcated around the city center. Our study area lies within this buffer circle and all the geo-processing activities were executed inside this circle boundary. ArcMap 10.8 software was used for performing the entire cartographic analysis. The relative weightage for each of the involved criteria was determined using Analytic Hierarchy Process method. The results from final overlay analysis revealed that nearly 13 potential candidate landfill sites having area greater than 0.5 km2 can be chosen for siting studies. Among them, only those sites having size of 1.58 km2, 0.67 km2, 0.8 km2 & 4.5 km2 were respectively proposed for each of Northeast, Northwest, Southwest, and Southeast region of Bangalore city. Future comprehensive field investigations conducted on proposed sites shall determine their final construction decision.
