Indian temples are the epitome of human interaction with the deity, shaping their lifestyle through beliefs and are places of gathering with the meaning of human interaction changing through history. However, the architecture of these temples root into the ancient knowledge that guide the proportions that derive the form of these structures. This research investigates, the potential of the proportion system established in ancient India and its relevance today. A research approach revolves around defining and generalising the system of proportions and applying the specific learnt method in Nagarshaili temple architecture style. This paper addresses the application of the ancient text of proportions present in elements in Somnath temple. Based on the literature review, a framework is applied on the case study that generated inferences by the medium of graphical drawings including plans, elevations and sections. The findings of this research can contribute to the understanding of the correlation of each element in the temple and further become a database of constants and variables that are present in the temple, giving freedom of exploration and further being able to fuse the contemporary temples with inclusivity of the past proportion knowledge.
