AI for Dementia and Other Memory Problems
摘要
With declining age comes decline in cognitive functions and daily living with independence becomes a challenge. For some people this decline is age appropriate, but for some the decline is grave enough to be diagnosed as mild cognitive impairment or further as dementia, characterized by progressive difficulties in memory, reasoning, and communication. Dementia is a persistent loss of cognition in multiple cognitive domains severe enough to limit social or occupational function. It is quantitatively and qualitatively different from age-related cognitive decline in the elderly and is a disabling condition. In absence of a cure for dementia, the focus lies in management of dementia, where early diagnosis, and supportive care are important. In this chapter, we primarily discuss dementia and the progressive implications of AI in its diagnosis and management.
