The rapid decline of fossil fuels is increasing interest in renewable energy sources. However, the intermittent nature of renewable energy has drawn attention to hybrid systems. The hybrid system is constructed using solar photovoltaic (PV), diesel generator (DG), pumped hydro storage (PHS), and utility grid. The main objective of this paper is to minimize the cost of energy and emissions using HOMER Pro software. The performance has been compared with and without the installation of PV. It has been observed that after the installation of PV, the levelized cost of energy ($/kWh) is reduced by about 82%. The net present cost for the optimal configuration is 58381.63 $ and the levelized cost of energy is 0.22295 $/kWh and the operating cost is 1866.153 $/yr. The findings of this research will prove helpful in providing information about the feasibility and approach to implement the hybrid renewable energy systems in the areas that may be rural in nature and thus help toward the broader aim of attaining energy sustainability and resilience.

摘要
