Design of 60 m UHPFRC Composite Bridge: Application and Working Example
摘要
In 2022, a circular was released by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MORTH), Government of India. The circular “RW/NH-33049/01/2020-S&R (B) Pt.” mentions the adoption of Ultra-High-Performance Fiber Reinforced Concrete (UHPFRC) by several developed countries in their infrastructure projects. It promotes the idea of accepting UHPFRC in India and lays down the road map to do so. This circular is a result of both the successful implementation of UHPFRC road bridge near Latur, India (2 × 56 m) in 2019, and introduction of French code of design and material specification for UHPFRC in 2016 (NF P18-710 and NF P18-470). In this paper, a working example of 60 m composite UHPFRC bridge is presented. The composite bridge constitutes M155 grade prestressed segmental UHPFRC U-girders and M45 grade RCC Deck slab. The minimum characteristic elastic \(\left({f}_{ctk,el}\right)\) and post-cracking \(\left({f}_{ctfk}\right)\) tensile strength of the material are 8 MPa and 7 MPa, respectively. The superior mechanical property of the UHPFRC is due to its material composition and preparation. The UHPFRC matrix typically consists of a high concentration of cement and silica fume as binders, high-strength steel fibers (1–2% by Vol.), a very low Water/Binder (W/B) ratio, and admixtures like water reducers. Due to its very dense particle packing, it experiences negligible effects of creep and shrinkage.
