One Hundred Years of the Sangasanga Water Treatment Plant: Archaeological Heritage Issues Concerning the Environment and Vital Needs of Society
摘要
A city or settlement always needs a water supply, especially clean water. Water is an important factor in the survival of human life. The availability of clean water and improving its quality are indications of the progress of civil society. Rivers often serve as raw water sources that are processed at Water Treatment Plants (WTP) to provide clean water. Through the study of archaeological remains of a WTP in Sangasanga, Kalimantan, we can learn how past peoples interacted with the surrounding environment and understand the trends of change in the region. The Sangasanga and its historic WTP provide a portrait of the part of Kalimantan that is rich in natural resources, and where those resources, especially critical water supplies need to be preserved.
