In this chapter, Domestic Violence Act, legislated in 2005, in India is examined from three perspectives. Firstly, the philosophical views about the concepts of power, aggression and violence are examined. These concepts are then linked with the trauma and intimate partner violence (IPV) that aligns with  the domestic violence act, legislated in India in 2005. Second, data and evidence-based research about the nature of domestic violence and broadly crimes against women across Indian context is reviewed. The nature of therapeutic interventions and professional training requirements are discussed in the next section. Finally, implications for policy, law and psychology are discussed with examples from non-governmental organisations and implementation of the law.
