Assessing Professional Readiness and Ethical Challenges for AI Integration in Mental Health Services
摘要
The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into mental health care remains a topic of limited acceptance among professionals, hence prompting focused assessments to gauge attitudes and inform educational initiatives. Simultaneously, advancements in digital technologies, particularly AI, are poised to transform mental health care delivery, necessitating mental health professionals to acquire the required knowledge and skills. This review consolidates perspectives from various studies, highlighting critical shortcomings in current mental health services and proposing AI-driven solutions to enhance accessibility, efficiency, and effectiveness. Drawing from extensive research experience, this paper advocates different transformative methodologies that emphasize personalized interventions and AI-driven innovations as pivotal components. The intersection of AI and precision medicine in mental health, is thoroughly explored, thereby demonstrating AI’s potential to enhance diagnostic accuracy through machine learning (ML) methods (e.g., deep neural networks (DNNs)) to predict psychiatric stressors and identify suicide risk. Despite its promises, AI adoption in mental health services encounters challenges such as ethical dilemmas, data biases, and transparency issues. The paper also underlines AI’s promise in addressing workforce shortages, improving diagnostic precision, and advancing treatment delivery while acknowledging concerns related to job displacement and the indispensable role of human clinicians. This synthesis, thus underscores the extensive impact of AI on mental health services, signaling a transformative shift in care delivery while highlighting the need for careful consideration of limitations and future research directions.
