A Critical Analysis on Benefits of Internet of Things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the Mining Sector

The mining sector is in a state of revolution by means of adopting technological innovations like the Internet of Things (IoT) and artificial intelligence (AI). They facilitate integration of intelligent systems with interconnected devices to optimize operations in the mining sector. Sensors of IoT implanted in various equipment and infrastructure collect real-time data on operations, enabling predictive maintenance, optimizing resource allocation, and improving worker safety through real-time monitoring and hazard detection. AI algorithms make a clear analysis of the collected data in order to find out patterns, anticipate equipment failure, and optimize process of extraction. The mining sector is facing several operational problems that can be minimized or eradicated completely by technological changes. Key benefits of using these technologies include increased productivity through automation and optimization, improved safety by minimizing human intervention in hazardous environments, and enhanced resource management through data-driven decision-making. Some of the problems have already been resolved, but some still remain. For resolving the remaining problems, various data about the benefits of using IoT and AI collected from different mines by making questionnaires. Then, in this study, a prioritization method called the WASPAS (Weighted Aggregated Sum Product Assessment) method particularly used for assessing various tactics or technological advancements according to predetermined standards.
