摘要

Burnishing is a cold working process that employs plastic deformation to form surface defects into a smooth, work-hardened surface. The effect of the key burnishing parameters (speed, feed rate, penetration depth, and number of tool passes) on the surface roughness and surface hardness of ferrous metals was investigated in this study. The speed and feed rate were shown to be the most significant parameters that have a massive effect on the workpiece surface during the burnishing process. Throughout the experimental work described in this research, a basic, affordable, newly built ball burnishing tool with an interchangeable adaptor for using a 10-mm ball diameter was employed.
