Use of Recycled Plastic Waste and Scrap Tires on the Performance of Asphalt Concrete
摘要
Typically, asphalt pavements encounter two major type of distresses, rutting and cracking. Rutting is one of the most common permanent pavement deformations in earlier life of the pavement and cracking occurs when the pavement is aged. To improve rutting performance of asphalt pavement, asphalt needs to have stiffer performance. Experience has shown that stiffer asphalt mix can have a negative effect on cracking. Hence, it is important to achieve a balanced asphalt mixture having both good rutting and cracking resistances. Asphalt pavement should have good rutting resistance in earlier stage and good cracking resistance after aging. This study aims to evaluate the use of two types of recycled materials, recycled plastic waste and granulated crumb rubber from waste rubber tires, on the rutting and cracking properties of asphalt concrete.
