Exploring Transportation Resilience: A Review of Research in Asian Countries
摘要
There is no dispute over the fact that climate change has contributed significantly to the loss of human and economic wealth considerably in recent years. Transportation plays an important role in disaster management and all its phases. Transportation is regarded as one of the lifelines, due to its indispensable role in facilitating the movement of people and accessibility to services. During and after a catastrophe, effective movement of people and services is a necessity to reduce the extent of losses. And the same will only be possible with the help of a resilient transportation system. The concept of resilience is more and more studied, investigated, and integrated into the transportation sector due to its ability to make the system stable. This paper addresses the extent of resilience research in Asian countries and presents a comprehensive review to understand the same. Several models and methodologies are identified and presented. There is a large disparity in the research contribution from the developed and developing economies of the Asian continent. The rationale for the same is discussed and some possible recommendations are presented.
