Using Fishponds Wastewater to Enhance Agricultural Crop Productivity and Sustainability

Utilizing fishpond wastewater in agriculture sustainably enhances crop production by recycling nutrients and reducing waste. The nutrient-rich wastewater of fishponds acts as a fertilizer, improving soil fertility and encouraging plant growth while promoting water conservation, especially in drought-prone regions. It also boosts farm production and profitability by reducing input costs and increasing crop yields. However, careful management is crucial to address challenges like nutrient imbalance and regulatory compliance. Overall, integrating fishpond wastewater into agriculture fosters a symbiotic relationship between aquaculture and agriculture, enhancing system resilience and advancing food security, environmental preservation, and rural development. The objective of this chapter is to provide a comprehensive assessment of current practices, technologies, and research in aquaculture systems, with a particular focus on enhancing production efficiency, promoting environmental sustainability, and ensuring economic viability.
