Climate Change Effects on Sustainable Field Crops Production in Egypt: Challenges and Prospective

Climate change poses substantial difficulties to development and prosperity by disrupting weather patterns, temperature, precipitation, and sea levels. Throughout the twentieth century, significant climate alterations transpired, including increased temperatures and elevated sea levels. The repercussions of climate change are intricate, encompassing both direct and indirect consequences for human existence. The direct effect encompassed variations in crop yields, contingent upon the crop type, soil conditions, and prevailing environment, exacerbated by salty soil proliferation owing to rising sea levels, unexpected flooding events, and/or drought and heat stress. Indirect impacts encompass food costs and human health. Nevertheless, employing innovative tactics can mitigate losses and enhance profits. Egypt’s agriculture is significantly susceptible to climate change owing to its desert environment, water resource constraints, and dependence on food imports. This review analyzes the influence of climate change on agricultural crops in Egypt, encapsulating its impacts on water supplies and crop productivity. We also examine initiatives from the National Egyptian Strategic Plan for climate change mitigation and adaptation. It also underscores the principal problems in implementing adaptation measures to these changes.
