Brassinosteroids (BRs) are a universal group of plant hormones known to regulate the growth and development of plants and shield them from both biotic and abiotic stresses. The heavy metal pollution caused by ever-increasing industrialization is one of the major causes of stress in plants. The uptake of heavy metals by some plants beyond critical levels leads to oxidative stress. It is in this scenario where BRs come into the picture, safeguarding the plant by inhibiting lipid degradation and promoting the synthesis of phytochelates. Significant studies on the Arabidopsis plant have led to the divulgence of information on the regulatory mechanism of BR biosynthesis, metabolism, and signaling. In this review, we have provided updates on molecular and physiological aspects of BR signaling under stress induced by heavy metals.

摘要
