Salicylic Acid-Mediated Regulation of Plant Biology Under Heavy Metal Stress: Physiological and Molecular Aspects

Salicylic acid (SA), an essential secondary phenolic metabolite and messenger for plant defense responses, chemically known as 2-hydroxy benzoic acid which includes an aromatic ring comprising a OH moiety, is a multifaceted movable signaling plant hormone, known to be involved in many physiological processes in plants, such as germination, photosynthesis, and abiotic stress resistance such as heat, chilling, heavy metals, drought, and oxidative stress. This chapter deals with an in-depth discussion about the roles of salicylic acid in plants growing under heavy metal stress.
