The End of the Cultural Revolution and the Beginning of the Post-Mao Era

On September 9, 1976, Chairman Mao Zedong passed away. Just twenty-seven days later, another pivotal event occurred: the arrest of the Gang of Four, led by Mao’s widow, Jiang Qing. This marked the end of the Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution, which Mao had initiated a decade earlier. Thereafter, China entered a new stage of development, marked by the creation of a new economic system.
