This chapter covers two key themes. The first is the drift and stretch of the role of police creating new demands on policing and complexities with the use of non-lethal force on people with mental ill-health or drug-affected. In this environment, MSM problematises policing by demanding information immediately before police have had the time to assess the incident. The second, is that MSM provides confused framing of these expanded responsibilities and expectations. The shifting role of police into acting as paramedics and custodians of mental health is one of serious disquietude to police and their professional training model of maintaining safety, preventing crime and upholding the law. It is also a broadened role that creates multiple dilemmas for police and police training and the consequences of these new obligations have been ill-thought-out by society.

摘要
