A Review: Self-Healing Composite Materials

Smart materials are designed materials that have one or more properties that can be significantly changed in a controlled manner by external stimuli such as heat, stress, moisture, electricity, or magnetic field. Self-healing materials can be classified as a very special class of smart materials. These materials can heal by themselves without human intervention. The present research work is intended to design, manufacture, and analyze self-healing polymer composite materials. Self-healing capabilities, mechanical properties, and microstructural characterization of the composite material are the attributes of this research work. It is anticipated that the designed material can significantly restore its structure and the mechanical properties of the material. Experimental results indicate no deviation between expected and analyzed results. Complete restoration of its shape is observed, and the mechanical properties are even better than the original sample.
