PET Waste in Cement Mortar: A Review
摘要
All around the world, plastic is one of the materials that is used the most in people’s everyday lives. It is used for a variety of things, including poly bags, bottles, materials for packing, products that are usable and vital, and so on. As a result, plastic waste is generated in massive amounts and threatens humans, animals, and the natural environment. Additionally, it is dumped into open areas and watercourses, causing severe hazards to the ecosystem because of its low biodegradable nature. One of the possible solutions to this current scenario is to recycle this plastic waste in the construction sector either as cement or aggregate replacement with or without treatment. The reuse of plastic waste in cement composites resolves the problem of improper waste disposal and conserves natural resources. The present study reviewed the different properties of cement mortar consisting of plastic waste as a sand substitution. Results showed that incorporating plastic waste in cement mortar decreased density, cost, porosity, and strength. Using plastic waste as a sand substitution in cement mortar minimized the negative impact on the environment. The addition of plastic waste as fine aggregate results in the production of sustainable cement mortar.
