The study focuses on the space to use different materials by which factors such as performance, longevity, and cost effectiveness of solar collectors can be improved. We are working on a flat plate solar collector. Very little work has been done in this sector that may have suggested using materials other than traditional ones for improved efficiency of the drying process. Therefore, it is important to incorporate such materials that can fulfill all the traditional advantages. For our study, we have used Ansys Workbench, Ansys Fluent, Ansys Discovery, and Ansys Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) post from the construction of our model to the final calculations and results in post-processing. Polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) is a polymer that is also sometimes called acrylic glass and is used as an alternative to glass because of its absorptivity and transmissivity values of the material, compared with glass, which is traditionally used as a glazing material in the collector. The performance evaluation is done based on temperature, pressure, and velocity. Once all the parameters are provided as inputs, initialization is done, which is followed by the calculation of the result. After the calculations are completed, the contour results of various chosen parameters are achieved. Based on our study, we saw that PMMA achieves better results than glass. So, we suggest that PMMA could be used as an alternative to glass.

摘要
