This work investigates the machining performance of EDM process using hydrocarbon based EDM oil and non-edible Schleichera oleosa (Kusum oil). Result reveals that due to superior thermo-physical attributes of Kusum oil in comparison with EDM oil, it shows enhanced material removal rate (MRR) along with reduced surface roughness (SR) as compare to EDM oil. Further micro-hardness analysis result reveals that bio degradable non-edible Kusum oil shows remarkable reduction in micro-hardness of recast layer thickness (RLT) as compared to surface machined through EDM oil. Therefore, Kusum oil may be a better alternate of hydrocarbon based EDM oil as a dielectric fluid as it enhances the machining performance as well as make the process cost effective, environmentally safe, and safe for operator’s health.

摘要
