Additive manufacturing is a relatively new manufacturing method, which is under consideration in various industries. Conventional methods often lack the ability to tailor the composition of alloys with accuracy, which limits their capability to meet specific performance requirements in various industries. The proposed method addresses the challenge of achieving precise control over the composition of alloys during wire-arc additive manufacturing processes. The method utilizes two gas metal arc welding machines and a specially designed holder to solve this problem and enable controlled deposition of two different wires (alloying elements) onto a substrate, facilitating the production of alloys with highly customized compositions. In this study, an attempt was made to develop a martensitic stainless steel with desired composition by using two different materials (low carbon steel (ER70S grade) and stainless steel (308L grade). Results of elemental composition, microstructure and hardness of the fabricated new alloy is presented.
