Infrastructure and Smart Strategies for Sustainable Urban Mobility
摘要
India is on the brink of economic and sustainable transformation. Goal of these transformations is to meet growth and lifestyle aspirations of 1.4 billion people along with sustainability. These transformations are inter-related as with increase in economy, urbanization and industrialization, mitigation of Green House Gases (GHG) emissions also become important. In view of this, India has set an ambitious target of achieving NET ZERO emission by 2070. This can be achieved by focusing on reducing emissions in energy intensive industries i.e. transportation and agricultural sector. This paper focuses on reduction of GHG emissions in mobility sector and smart strategies for sustainable solutions in urban cities. In this paper, three solutions are proposed to reduce the passenger vehicular emission and traffic congestion: first is to reduce the commute of 30% organized workforce by giving them an option of remote working, second is to develop an infrastructure of transit-oriented development and third is to promote the use of rail-based mass rapid transit system on the identified and dedicated routes.
