Improvement of Hydrojetting Gun Based on Safety, Standards and Ergonomics: Activity Analysis and Electromyography

The activity of ultra-high pressure hydrojetting presents a significant risk of accidents with high damaging power, which can be lethal. This situation generated the need for a study of ergonomics in a technological innovation project for the redesign of the hydrojetting gun. The purpose of this study was to present the contributions of ergonomics in the redesign of the 40 kpsi hydrojetting gun to provide greater ergonomic comfort and operational safety during the activity. The study was carried out on an oil platform located on the Brazilian coast. The study was carried out based on activity analysis and surface electromyography. The high isometric postural demand of the upper limbs and spine was identified to support the hydrojetting gun and to activate the triggers. Improvements were proposed for the redesign of the gun, regarding triggers, weight and rod. Some important aspects regarding work organization and cognitive overload were also identified.
