Activity-Based Flexible Office (AFO) is an office layout increasingly adopted by organizations. The non-allocation of workstations makes AFOs particularly appealing from a financial management perspective. However, AFOs and their rules of use are sometimes the subject of negative feedback: the rules are not respected. In this paper, we propose a new perspective for understanding these “misuses”, drawing on Canguilhem’s concept of norms-milieu and Béguin’s idea of the professional world.
