Analysis and Ergonomic Intervention in the Macadamia Harvesting Process to Reduce Physical Load and Musculoskeletal Disorders

Generate a design proposal for mechanical aid for the macadamia harvesting process. Methodology: Descriptive observational study, observations were carried out in 3 full work days (total 15 h). The most critical tasks of the process were identified based on the critical risk identification criteria with ISO TR 12295. Results: Red risk (critical) postures were identified in the macadamia harvest for the body segments of the upper extremities of the shoulder with flexion greater than 90 degrees, in the trunk with flexions in dynamic postures and static postures at the level of the lower extremities, for an average of 2 h. A collection system was designed that allows the task to be carried out in a bipedal posture and allows the product to be transported with a pushing action, reducing effort, eliminating maintained and dynamic postures at risk. In addition, the system allows the shelled nut to be kept aerated, reducing the risk of product loss due to deterioration and cross contamination. The system increased productivity by 25%. Conclusion: The designed device had a favorable impact by reducing the physical load and increasing efficiency in the process by 25% and reducing lost days by 70%.
