Human Factors Engineering in maintainability needs to be better integrated within the design process. One of the keys is to capitalize the Human Factors and Ergonomics (HFE) analysis performed on a real system to transfer HFE criteria to design stakeholders. This paper introduces a new approach in the helicopter industry, mainly by studying numerous HFE reports which can be used to attribute specific design recommendation depending on the helicopter area and associated systems. We will first introduce why HFE is increasingly studied to improve maintenance activity. We will explain the context of our industrial case study, then the deployed observation protocol and, finally, the results. The discussion and the conclusion will be used to highlight the first classification of types of HFE recommendation dedicated to the design office.
