Ergonomic Evaluation of Refrigerator Handle Design: The Influence of Hinge Position, Grip Orientation, and Handle Height
摘要
The study aimed to identify the ergonomic design of a compact refrigerator with single-side hinged door by evaluating three factors: hinge position, grip orientation, and handle height. Twenty participants evaluated perceived exertion on shoulder, elbow, and back, respectively, as well as comfort and acceptability. Based on the analysis with consideration of both right- and left-handed users, we recommend placing the handle on a right-hinged door at an approximate vertical distance of between 900 mm and 1110 mm from the floor, with a grip oriented either upward or downward. The research not only provides the ergonomic guideline to mitigate physical strain and enhance usability of a compact refrigerator, but also has implications for other home appliances with single-side hinged door.
