Polymeric Hydrogel and Bioimplants

Hydrogels are made of interconnecting chains of natural or synthetic polymers joined by cross-linkers to create a hydrophilic substance with the macromolecular structure of a gel. They have the capacity to grow many times their dry weight and may include as much as 99 percent water or biological fluids. These three-dimensional (3D) highly hydrated porous networks are usually made to store, release, or collect materials and can replicate the natural tissue microenvironment.
