This paper explores the pivotal role played by the internationalization of higher education in fostering global citizenship, with a specific focus on the Moroccan context. The concept of global citizenship has emerged as a prevalent objective among higher education institutions, with a heightened focus on producing graduates equipped to tackle complex global issues in the professional arena. The analysis presented herein investigates a range of empirical studies on global citizenship within higher education, and highlights programs and initiatives that have been implemented by institutions of higher learning to promote global citizenship through internationalization. It also discusses the challenges and opportunities of promoting global citizenship in the context of international education, including issues related to diversity, social justice, and sustainability. Through a review of existing literature, the paper examines various approaches and strategies for promoting global citizenship through internationalization of higher education. The findings highlight the importance of developing curricula and pedagogical approaches that foster intercultural competence, critical thinking, and social responsibility. The paper concludes by highlighting the significance of global citizenship education in today's interconnected world and the role of higher education institutions in empowering students to become citizens of the world.
