Biowaste into bioenergy conversion is seen as a core part of sustainable energy evolution, waste management, environmental protection, and mitigation. With the increase in energy demand and the continuous rise in waste generation, policies regarding biowaste-to-bioenergy conversion are significant in terms of climate change reduction, less reliance on landfills, and promoting circular economies. This chapter will show that the bioenergy sector is shaped, regulated, incentivized, and propelled by technology. International commitments, such as the Paris Agreement and SDGs, are providing direction to national and regional bioenergy policies. Certain governments have taken the boldness to promote bioenergy solutions using mandates, subsidies, carbon credit programs, and public-private partnerships. Key policy mechanisms include financial incentives to support biogas, bioethanol, and biodiesel production, including feed-in tariffs, tax credits, and grants. Also, in place to guarantee that a steady supply of sustainably procured feedstock is available: waste segregation, collection, and processing practices. Investments in biorefineries, biomass power plants, and new and emerging bioenergy technologies will further hasten the transition toward renewables. Economic advantages accompanying the conversion of biowaste into bioenergy include job creation, a reduction in global fossil fuel dependence, and greater energy security. Thus, integrated policy reforms, innovative funding models, and collaborations at the global level will be important to promote bioenergy on a large scale. The strengthening of regulatory frameworks must also be coupled with the promotion of optimal utilization of biowaste by countries, thereby propelling a cleaner energy future while achieving climate and economic objectives.
